What Is “Context” in AI Writing?
Frase uses a large AI model to generate content on your behalf. Like a human writer, it needs to understand what it’s writing about to produce relevant, high-quality content.
That understanding comes from context—the input it receives to help guide the output. The better the context, the better the writing.
Let’s walk through the types of context the AI Writer uses in different parts of Frase.
How Context Works in the Editor
When you're working inside a document, Frase uses several layers of context behind the scenes to inform your in-editor AI commands.
If you've never used AI Commands or AI Editing, you can learn more in this guide!
Document Query
In SEO Workflow documents, each document is associated with a query—a topic or keyword phrase. This document (which is also your document's default title) is always included as a contextual input for the AI.
SERP Context
If "Web Search" is turned on in the AI Editor, Frase keeps SERP context in mind as it writes.
This helps ensure your content reflects what’s already ranking—and where your opportunity might be.
On-Page Context
While writing, the AI also sees up to 2,000 characters above your cursor. This helps it continue thoughts, avoid repeating ideas, and stay on topic as it writes inline.
How Context Works in Rank-Ready Documents
When you use a Rank-Ready Document, Frase automatically feeds the AI two main types of context:
-
Your document title (used as the topic or query)
-
Content pulled from the search results
This helps the AI create content that’s both relevant to your topic and aligned with search intent—without needing you to toggle any settings.
How Context Works in AI Tools
AI Tools in Frase only use the input fields inside the tool itself.
They do not use:
-
Editor content
-
SERP results
-
Document query or title
Tip: If you want the AI Tools to reference something specific, be sure to include it directly in the tool form.
