Create Your Own Custom AI Tool

Customize the AI Writer to match your exact content needs—on repeat.

Frase lets you build your own AI tools that consistently output content the way you want it. Whether it’s a custom FAQ generator, product description formatter, or tone-specific content assistant, you can guide the AI with your own prompt logic, examples, and style.

  • Access the Custom AI Tool Editor

  • Write Your Custom Prompt

  • Add Sample Input and Output

  • Test the Tool

  • Set Up Additional Options

Access the Custom AI Tool Editor

In the AI Tools section:

  1. In upper right corner, click the + New AI Tool button.

  2. Give your tool a name. This name will help you (and potentially others) identify the tool later.

  3. You'll be taken to the Custom AI Tool Editor.

Write Your Custom Prompt

At the bottom in the Prompt field, write what you want the AI to do—just like you would in ChatGPT or any prompt-based system.

Use % symbol to identify the variable part of your prompt (the part users will customize each time they use it).

Example: If you want to generate five FAQ pairings based on a page title, you could write:

Tip: Be as specific and instructive as possible—clear prompts lead to better, more consistent outputs.

Add Sample Input and Output

Just below the prompt, add:

  • A sample input that represents what a user might enter (e.g., How to Use AI for SEO)

  • A sample output that shows the AI what kind of response you're expecting

This helps train the AI by showing it a model of what "good" looks like.

Test the Tool

On the right side of the editor, you’ll see a Test panel.

  1. Enter different sample inputs into the input field.

  2. Click Generate to preview how your tool will respond.

You can keep adjusting your prompt, sample input/output, and test again until you're happy with the results.

Set Up Additional Options

There are a few more fields you can use to improve organization and visibility:

  • Description: Explain what the tool is for. This will help others (or future you) understand it quickly.

  • Category: Choose where the tool will appear (e.g., Advertising, Blog, Copywriting, Email).

  • Personality: Optionally, define the tone, style, or character the output should mimic.

  • Publish to Community:
By default, your tool is private to you (and your team, if applicable).
After you test it at least 5 times, you can toggle Publish to Community on to share it with all Frase users in the Community section.
